Freelance 12 Week Contract

7 hours per week –  possible extension funds permitting

Home-Start Worldwide (HSW) is a membership organisation that provides strategic leadership to a network of Home-Start organisations in 22 countries across the world. All our members offer a free service providing support and friendship to families with at least one pre-school child through regular home visiting trained volunteers.

We are at an early stage of our development in strengthening support to existing network members and establishing new Home-Start’s around the world. To kick start our capacity building programme, we wish to hire a freelance Communications and Digital Lead to provide additional support to the p/t CEO and the trustee board in shaping and creating a sustainable and ambitious communications strategy with multiple media platforms.

Accountability and Relationships

Reporting to the CEO


  • Developing HSW’s brand and message –review and refresh
  • Manage HSW website, including editing and updating content, SEO, mobile interface and other activities which maximise raising awareness
  • Work on building HSW’s social media presence by devising a phased strategy for setting up and creating content for:
    • LinkedIn
    • Facebook
    • Twitter
    • Instagram
    • YouTube
  • Produce new collateral and content that is easy and accessible to use by diverse group of international network members. This will include; the brochure, newsletter, case studies, photography, short video content, PowerPoint template etc. to form a databank of communication materials
  • Help train new potential volunteers to assist with our social media content and contribute to the charity by identifying, cultivating and sustaining digital interest and support for our work.
  • Passionate about raising awareness of HSW

Person Specification

  • A collaborative team player also able to work independently without supervision
  • A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • A proven track record of Communications and Digital experience and a fast learner
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English, producing compelling and creative marketing materials
  • Experience of working and communicating effectively with various stakeholders
  • Well organised, able to manage a variety of tasks
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in the use of a range of software including MS Office, MS Teams, Zoom, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, Canver, Mailchimp and Eventbrite
  • Demonstrable understanding of Google and social media analytics for measuring success, using these to improve the performance and enhance the impact of content
  • Proven track record of setting up a growing social media channels
  • Creative and unafraid to suggest new ideas

Skills and experience required

  • Self-starter with minimum one year’s marketing and communications experience or equivalent.
  • Degree educated or demonstrable equivalent capability
  • Experience of working for an international NGO or charity would be very desirable
  • Second language would be advantageous
  • Able to start immediately
