Home-Start Hungary is a family support network. It provides friendship and practical help to families with young children. It is free of charge and works in a preventive way by training volunteers to help strengthen families and thereby strengthening the local community.
Our foundation is offering a mental health-based support in case of a normative crisis. We support families with preschool children by strengthening parental competences focused on the long-term positive effect on children’s life. All our volunteers have parental experiences, and they visit the families in the safety of their own home
What specific issues are we targeting?
ISOLATION
COMMUNITY STRENGTHENING
EMPOWERMENT
NORMATIVE CRISIS MANAGEMENT
The improvement of mental health is a central issue of our activities:
With supporting families with young children, our aim is to strengthen the parents’ self-help ability, their parental competences, with a common goal to achieve better outcome for children and young people. Parenting skills can be developed and strengthened; everyday stress can be reduced.
Completing the volunteer training and supporting families also improves the mental health and the self-confidence of our volunteers.
Many of our volunteers experience their ability to learn new skills, competences and communication techniques and onmany occasions this encourage them get higher education or enroll to adult courses. They feel like a useful member of society, they can pass on their parenting experiences to young families, thereby supporting the transfer of knowledge between generations.
In May 2022 we launched a Family Support Group Program for Single Parent Families in Budapest. The aim of this parental group was providing a strong focus on mental well-being and the enhancement of parental competences, alongside a community building initiative.
