United Kingdom
The UK is where the Home-Start story began, back in 1973 in the English city of Leicester. Today, there are around 173 local, independent Home-Starts working to support families across the UK.
Across all four nations of the United Kingdom last year, thousands of home-visiting volunteers supported 58,938 families and 76,750 children to transform their lives.
Families struggling with mental health issues, isolation, physical health problems, bereavement, and many other issues receive the support of a volunteer who will spend around two hours a week in a family’s home supporting them in the ways they need.
Home-Starts also support families in community groups, signposting other local services, food and baby banks, hold day trips, Christmas parties and much more.
